For the opening event at Lightbox, a new destination for digital media art exhibitions and events on Manhattan’s West side, NBNY and the artist Nils presented “The Science of Site” a video installation exploring the physical volume of the newly-built space through the collage and mapping of the surreal films of Jean Painlevé. Painlevé’s seminal work initiated the idea of a “scientific-poetic cinema” fusing the aesthetic with an appreciation of the frontiers of technology and human understanding.
